AUSTRALIAN TRUCK RACING

Truck racing is something else.

I can't imagine trying to race a huge truck around a racetrack while other trucks are screaming to get past you, oh, and when they crash... it can be pretty spectacular.

I find it hard enough trying to drive my Ford Territory around, it weighs 2.3ton and is a bitch to park at times. lol...

Enjoy

TARGA TASMANIA

Targa Tasmania is a road race around the Australian island called Tasmania.

What makes it unique, is that, its the southern most tip of Australia. Next stop is Antarctica, so one day is nice and sunny, 10mins later its cold, raining and at times, snowing.

All of which makes racing that little bit more challenging, even claiming the life of one of Australia's best motor racing hero 'Peter Brock'.

VECTOR W2

Hello and welcome back....Looking like it was pulled from the future, the Vector W2 was America's answer to the Lamborghini Countach.

The Vector W2 was a concept car only meaning it was never placed in production with its prototype being built in 1980.

Vector claimed that its beast of a car could go up to 320kmph (230mph) and had a twin turbocharged 350 Chevrolet V8 engine snugged under its bonnet so it could have been possible.

When placed in Top Gears hands, Vector asked not to do a top speed test on it.

The dash of the Vector put Marty's time machine (back to the future) to shame... look at all those buttons.

Over the life of the W2 it managed a mere 160,000 kms.

Currently, the Vector W2 prototype is owned by Wiegert. The car is currently dismantled, and stored alongside other Vector equipment in the current Vector headquarters in Wilmington, California...So Sad..Sniff :(

TOYOTA SERA

Hello and welcome back.... Originally made for the Japanese market, the "Toyota Sera" has almost a cult following world wide.
The Sera was built between 1990 - 1996 and was a 2 door sports car with "Butterfly Wings" for doors.

Toyota has only made 16,000 and are beginning to become  rare collectables.
The engine is only a 1.5ltr motor, the same that you would find in a Toyota  Paseo or Starlet.
The body of the Sera is sleek and rounded with glass being a big feature with the main back hatch made from a single piece of glass... pity the poor person in the back in summer.

For me I love these cars, as they are quiet rare, I was surprised to see one at my local supermarket car-park. It looked distinctively unique along side the usual Ford Falcons, Lasers and Holden Commodores.
It was a vision of the future... or was that the past. Cheers

FERRARI 308 GTB/GTS

Hello and welcome back...2 things come to mind when i think of the Ferrari 308... Sleek &Sexy.
It was once said that if you were single and owned a Ferrari 308, in 10 years time, you were guaranteed a have a house full of screaming kids...You were that irresistible.

The Ferrari 308 was manufactured from 1975-1985 by the Ferrari motor company in Maranello Italy and replaced the Ferrari Dino 308.
This car sported sleek curves, pop up headlights, rounded back lights and a mid-mounted 3L V8 engine.
The 308 started life as a fiberglass shell until 1977 when they changed to steel adding 150kg in added weight.
Acceleration was zippy with 0-100mph in 15s and all 308's had a manual 5 speed all-synchromesh gearbox.

The 308 came in 2 models, the Berlinetta (GTB) and the Targa Top (GTS).
The early 80s saw an upgraded model known as the 308 Quattrovalvole, this model had extra valve work (more power),a new grill to aid radiator exhaust air, electric mirrors, a change in various lights and a new 3 spoke steering wheel. It even got a new Ferrari badge on the side panel...Nice.

Enter a man with a trademark moustache, floral shirt, baseball cap and denim hot pants/jeans that were 3 sizes too small.
Enter Magnum P.I played by Tom Selleck and a Ferrari 308GTSi owned by Robin Masters.
Driving around Hawaii solving crimes and helping young damsels in distress find their way, was all in a days work for magnum P.I

Why can't i get a job like that?..

HOLDEN VK COMMODORE

Hello and welcome back... Now here is a car that i did own. My VK Commodore was simular to the pic (right) except it had a thumping 5lt V8 engine with a chunky exhaust system, so loud in fact, i had to roll her down the hill and around the corner, because where i lived at the time, when i started her, the windows of my neighbors would rattle and would wake them up.

The VK Commodore came out in 1984 and was the first to introduce plastic bumpers and 6 windows.
The 6 window configuration was a good idea(small window on back doors) but in the real world it was an easy way for thieves to gain entry to your "beast" without much noise being made.A simple arm to the door lock and you could watch your pride and joy disappear up the road in trail of smoke and noise.

Other engines available was a 3.3ltr straight six and came with a carburetor, only the Calais ( upmarket commodore) had fuel injection.
The dash went from rounded buttons to a more retro square buttons

V8 racing is huge in Australia, Your ether a Holden fan or a Ford fan, The 80s saw a new leader of Holden racing know as Peter Brock. The classic 05 Commodore back end was a familiar site of many a ford driver ( except Dick Johnson.. sometimes).
Peter Brock won many times at Bathurst (race track), sadly after retiring from V8 racing, he hit a tree while in a rally, driving a daytona sportscar and died.
